Lewisville vs. Grand Prairie (Week 0)
Preview By: David Haynes
The Farmers open their season against the Grand Prairie Gophers for the fourth straight year Friday night in a home game with a 7:30pm start time. Lewisville has won
3 of the previous 4 meetings against the Gophers and look to make it 4 of 5 Friday night. Weather is expected to be partly cloudy and temperatures are expected
to drop into the low 80s.
Lewisville enters their first game with a new head coach in Dick Olin after Steve Gaddis retired last year. The Farmers seem to be a confident bunch heading into this
season with an improved work ethic and a more optimistic outlook topping it off with a new helmet logo. Olin brings a pure spread offense and a 3-2-6 defensive
scheme designed to stop the spread attack. How this works against a run based offense shall be determined.
The Farmers are lead by SR QB Brandt Sadlowski who played in a number of games last season after Jordan Dotson was hurt. Sadlowski will be counted on for his quickness
and quick decision making in the pocket. Other key players returning are all district selection SR SS Julian Rodriguez (6, 170), SR OL DeVante White (6-4 338), SR
WR Rafael Cotton (5-11, 221), WR Kedran Davis (5-9, 165) and SR LB Kelvin Gilkey (5-11, 185). The defensive line is anchored by up and coming SO Scott Ekpe (6-4, 225).
Grand Prairie has lost several players such as 3 year starter DL Prestin Brown, LB Adrian Pena and QB Eric Davis. The Gophers utilize a run and shoot style offense so this
might keep the Farmers on their toes a bit, especially given the new defensive scheme.
Last year, some predicted Lewisville in a blowout but that simply did not happen and while I don’t see the game being as close as last year, I do expect the Farmers to
experience some growing pains within their first game but luckily pre district is a long one so those growing pains should be solved, hopefully.
Prediction: Lewisville 21, Grand Prairie 10
